Painted and decorated glass bottles can be a super simple and cute way to decorate your home. You can use them as flower vases, as a candle holder or put some fairy lights inside of them. Such bottles can be found in home decor stores for ridiculous expensive prices. But why buy them if you can easily make them yourself? Here are some easy glass bottle painting ideas to make your own cute decor bottles.
The best part about this is you don’t need much to start making your own stunning designs.
What you need:
- Glass bottles or jars (you probably have some empty wine bottles or used jars at home)
- Paint:
- Spray paint – find some here at Blick Art Materials (this is probably the easiest way to paint the whole bottle very quickly and evenly)
- You can find specific glass paint but acrylics also work fine – use whatever you have and can afford
- Sharpies also work great for some of these designs
Depending on your design choice you’ll also need:
- a sponge
- brushes
- washi tape
Here are 8 cute glass bottle painting ideas to inspire your own creations.
Flowers
This is one of my favorite glass bottle painting ideas because it’s just so pretty. Flower designs are very beautiful and you can customize them with your favorite flower. Look up some pictures of a flower and carefully paint them on your glass bottle or jar. If you use acrylic paint you might need to apply a second coat.
Geometric design
A geometric design is super easy and you don’t need any painting skills for it. You only need some washi tape and paint (spray paint or acrylic will work). If you don’t want the glass to peek through, paint the whole bottle in one color first. Then stick the washi tape on the bottle in a pattern you like. You can tape it diagonal, horizontal or just wrap it around the bottle in a spiral. Get creative. After that paint the bottle in your preferred color. Remove the tape after the paint has dried. There you have your cool geometric design.
Leafs
I love botanical patterns and painting leafs is super easy because you don’t need great painting skills to paint these. Leafs in nature are never identical and your painting doesn’t need to be either. So it’s a really easy bottle painting idea.
You think you can’t paint? Here are 7 reasons why you should start painting this year!
Paint pouring
Paint inside a clear bottle or jar is really beautiful especially since it leaves the outside glossy and clean. For this method pour some paint (preferably acrylic) into the bottle (make sure it’s not too thick so it can flow but don’t add too much water!) and turn the bottle so the paint can spread inside.
Brush Marks
For this rustic bottle design idea you can spray paint the glass bottle or jar a specific color like white and then use a big brush dipped in an accent color to make bold strokes. You can paint the bottom or the top of the bottle or both. Use colors that fit your style and interior.
Ombre Effect
An ombre effect can be easily achieved with a sponge. Choose two colors and paint the bottle in sections. Dip the sponge in your paint and dap it where the two colors meet to create a nice transition. You could also use more than two colors.
Dots
It doesn’t get easier than this bottle painting idea. Paint your bottle one color (or leave it clear), dip your brush in paint and paint dots on the bottle. You can place them randomly all over or in a cute pattern.
Line Art
For this minimalistic design paint your bottle one color. Use a sharpie or a fine thin brush dipped in another color of your choice (a black and white combo works great for a modern and minimalistic look) and carefully paint your line art. TIP: Make a pencil sketch first so it’s easier to commit to your line art with paint.
Hopefully I could inspire you with some of these glass bottle painting ideas. Please let me know if you make your own decorated glass bottle and tell me how it looks.
